Why is John Coffey denied justice according to Stephen King?
One of the main reasons why King wrote the book The Green Mile is to show how legal injustice puts innocent people behind bars. He maintains that the justice system is largely unfair and this disadvantages the innocent people. For instance, John Coffey is detained because he is charged with rape and murder case. However, King makes it clear to the reader that Coffey is innocent because he did not commit the crime. Edgecombe one of the officers discovers that the real person who raped and killed the girls is Wharton. Therefore, Coffey who is about to be executed is innocent.

Does Edgecombe stand out as a mark of humanity in the book The Green Mile?
Edgecombe is a straight divergence of the character Wharton. Stephen King depicts Paul Edgecombe as a humanity icon because he is concerned about the sufferings of fellow human beings. Edgecombe comprehends that prisoners are people and they suffer from emotional distress. He decides to treat them humanly so that they can relax and have hope that there is life after imprisonment. However, Wharton, on the other hand, uses his position to manipulate and disgrace the prisoners.

What is the significance of the title The Green Mile?
The green mile is the name given to the execution block in the prison. The author decided to use this title because of its figurative and emblematic meaning. The title is a representation of death because once the prisoners are taken to the execution room, the chances of survival are minimal. What happens in the execution room is inhumane and the author paints a picture of the sufferings the prisoners go through.
